Fast Friends, Literally

This summer, Stahls’ ID Direct™ has implemented its first internship program, with 10 college students gaining real-world experience in the heat printing industry. This is part of an ongoing series of blog posts by our interns, discussing their experiences.

Our new friend, Shannon.

When starting out at a new company there are always some nerves, with questions such as,  “Am I going to do a good job? What if I mess up?”  And of course, “Will I have any friends?”  Well, when starting here at Stahls’ ID Direct as an intern I had all those questions buzzing around in my head.  I knew it wouldn’t be so bad since I was going to be working with my cousin, but was I going to get along with anyone else?

The answer is yes!  There are 10 of us interns and we all get along.  It’s nice having these other colleagues in the same position I’m in.  I mean who better to understand and relate to what you are going through than others who are doing and experiencing the same things?

We decided off the bat we wanted to form friendships so we started having our own intern lunches once a week.  We either bring in or own lunches or we do it pot luck style.  We sit around talking about our day so far and what we have planned for the weekend.  Sometimes we just need to tell about an experience we had with a customer, something funny that happened in the office, or to just clear our heads from work stuff and talk about things we do at school.  It’s nice to have these people to relate to.

Also, because of the fact we are all the same age and going through the same things in life, we bond, and honestly I have made some friends here that will last past this summer internship.  Working here has brought me so many opportunities, taught me so much, and it also gave me a group of new friends.  Stahls’ is truly a family-based company from us mere interns to the head honchos at the top.  And I am grateful to be able to work here this summer.
