The Great Finish Line

The Spirit of Stahls crosses the finish line.

The 2012 Great Race came to an end Sunday at The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI. After nine days, 2300 miles, two countries, and four states, the classic cars competing in the race crossed the finish line to the delight of the assembled spectators.

Barry and Irene Jason, in their 1935 Ford 5 Window Coupe, were the grand champions, finishing just 41 seconds off the “perfect” time. The “Spirit of Stahls” 1941 Packard 120 coupe finished third in the Rookie class.

More importantly, the team exceeded its goal of raising $1000 for the VCRA Race for Autism 2012. With $2560 (so far) in funds raised, the Spirit of Stahls was a winner in more ways than one.

Congratulations to the Spirit of Stahls team and all of those who donated. And congratulations also to the Packard itself – not bad for a 71-year-old.
