When most of the 2012-13 NHL® season was canceled due to a labor dispute, so was the planned outdoor game between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs. On Sunday, though, it was announced that the game will be played, albeit a year later than expected.

The 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® will take place on January 1, 2014 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. “The Big House,” as it’s known, is home to University of Michigan football but is expected to set a hockey record with the Winter Classic. Attendance is expected to exceed 110,000 fans, a world record for a single hockey game.

New uniforms have been designed for each team for the event. The Red Wings will pay homage to the franchise’s history with red and antique white uniforms inspired by the 1920s-era Detroit Cougars (as the Wings were then known) and an early version of the winged wheel logo. The Toronto jersey features the original Maple Leafs logo from 1927 (when the team changed its name from the St. Patricks) along with design elements from throughout the team’s history.

With the jerseys now officially unveiled and going on sale, Stahls’ has officially licensed NHL®/NHLPA® player kits available for both. The kits are in keeping with the vintage look and feel of the jerseys, with Red Wings kits available in felt and Maple Leafs kits in acrylic felt.

When ordering, simply select the team of choice and “WINTER CLASSIC 2014” as jersey type, then select a player name from the drop-down menu. For customized kits, visit our Personalized NHL®/NHLPA® Player Name and Number page.

While the Winter Classic may be almost nine months away, excited customers will still be looking to get their jerseys adorned with the names and numbers of their favorite players. Be prepared to help them complete the look with these convenient player kits.
